Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Friday

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday tracking firm global cues led by US economic data. further, some support also came in as the Chief of the Global Economic Monitoring Branch, Economic Analysis and Policy Division, UN-Department of Economic and Social Affairs Hamid Rashid in the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2023 report has said India is a bright spot in the world economy currently and is on a strong footing, projected to grow at 6.7 per cent next year, a very high growth rate relative to other G20 member countries. However, higher global crude oil prices ahead of the oil cartel OPEC's meeting and foreign fund outflows, capped further gains in rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market on Wednesday as they sold shares worth Rs 2,393.94 crore, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, money markets were closed on Thursday for the Republic Day holiday.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 81.55, stronger by 6 paise from its previous close of 81.61 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 81.6525 and 81.52 respectively.
