Apr-29-2024

Union minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh filed his nomination papers from the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat. Singh was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami while submitting the nomination papers to the District Election Officer Surya Pal Gangwar.

Before filing the nomination, Defence Minister held a roadshow in Lucknow. Besides Adityanath, Singh was accompanied by the two deputy chief ministers of the state as he took out a procession from the state BJP headquarters. Huge crowds welcomed the BJP leaders with slogans of ‘Abki baar, 400 paar’, ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Har, Har Mahadev.’ The party had made elaborate arrangements with the road leading from the party office to the collectorate decorated with flags, banners and buntings, giving Singh's constituency a festive look. Rajnath Singh also offered prayers at the Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Temple and Hanuman Setu Temple in Lucknow.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the victory will be historic and Rajnath Singh has done development works and developed Lucknow. He said that the work started under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been taken forward by Rajnath Singh.

Rajnath Singh will face Samajwadi Party candidate Ravidas Mehrotra from this seat. In the 2019 election, Singh had defeated Samajwadi Party's Poonam Sinha while in 2014, he had defeated Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi. Polling in Lucknow will be held in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
