Indices continue to witness solid gains in late morning deals
Oct-15-2026

Domestic equity indices continued to witness solid gains and were trading higher by around one and a half percent in late morning deals as market participants increased their positions. Heavy buying in the stocks of Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Infosys helped both the Sensex and the Nifty reclaim their psychological levels of 73,800 and 22,950, respectively. Falling crude oil prices supported domestic market sentiment. Sentiments were further supported by Indian rupee appreciating 10 paise at 95.06 per dollar.  There were encouragements in markets as external Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said negotiations on the India-US trade deal were heading towards a ‘landing point’, with officials from both countries working to iron out outstanding issues.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading in the red, following negative cues from US markets overnight. South Korea’s Kospi fell over 8.65%, dragged by technology heavyweights SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics. Back home, on the BSE sectoral front, traders were seen building up positions in the TECK, IT, Auto, Oil & Gas, and Energy sectors, while selling was witnessed in Capital Goods, Power, Industrials, Utilities, and PSU stocks.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 73886.66, up by 1104.77 points or 1.52% after trading in a range of 72896.38 and 73907.07. There were 27 stocks advancing against 3 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were TECK up by 2.34%, IT up by 1.77%, Auto up by 1.39%, Oil & Gas up by 0.95% and Energy up by 0.90%, while Capital Goods down by 1.60%, Power down by 1.46%, Industrials down by 1.06%, Utilities down by 0.50% and PSU down by 0.32% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were HCL Technologies up by 3.24%, Tech Mahindra up by 2.92%, Bharti Airtel up by 2.91%, TCS up by 2.83% and Reliance Industries up by 2.64%. On the flip side, Trent down by 0.69%, Bharat Electronics down by 0.33% and Power Grid down by 0.22% were the few losers.

Meanwhile, external Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that negotiations on the India-US trade deal were heading towards a ‘landing point’, with officials from both countries working to iron out outstanding issues. He noted that the core fundamentals of the bilateral strategic partnership remain unchanged. His remarks on the trade negotiations came over a week after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India-US trade talks had reached a ‘plateau’ with further concessions likely to be difficult for both sides.

Jaishankar said India’s trade minister, the US Trade Representative (USTR) and other officials concerned are engaged in talks to move forward on the bilateral trade pact. He said ‘the US has a fundamentally different approach to the use of tariffs. But even that is a symptom of something else. The US is today determined to re-industrialise and to reset the terms of access to its economy.’ He also noted that the US is revising the terms of its alliances and treaty relationships and that the sentiment is most strongly being felt in Europe, and to some extent, in some countries in East Asia.

India and the US have been negotiating a proposed bilateral trade pact since early 2025 to address tariff friction, eliminate non-tariff barriers, and boost bilateral market access. India is seeking more favourable tariff for its exports to the US compared with those offered to competing economies.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 22954.95, up by 332.25 points or 1.47% after trading in a range of 22637.40 and 22960.05. There were 42 stocks advancing against 8 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were HCL Technologies up by 3.50%, Bharti Airtel up by 3.33%, Tech Mahindra up by 3.24%, Reliance Industries up by 2.73% and TCS up by 2.60%. On the flip side, Trent down by 1.38%, Nestle India down by 1.09%, Adani Enterprises down by 1.06%, Bharat Electronics down by 0.38% and State Bank of India down by 0.31% were the top losers.

All Asian markets were trading lower; Nikkei 225 slipped 3302.29 points or 4.87% to 64,442.00, Taiwan Weighted lost 1659.86 points or 3.41% to 46,965.97, Jakarta Composite plunged 128.3 points or 2.21% to 5,814.72, Shanghai Composite weakened 56.61 points or 1.5% to 3,710.62, KOSPI dropped 522.00 points or 8.69% to 5,486.81, Hang Seng declined 295.17 points or 1.21% to 24,019.00 and Straits Times fell 37.26 points or 0.69% to 5,386.07.
