Rebel TMC MPs seek 2 more weeks to reply to LS notices on disqualification plea
Oct-08-2026

Rebel TMC MPs, who joined the NCPI, sought another 15 days to respond to notices issued by Lok Sabha (LS) Speaker Om Birla regarding a petition seeking their disqualification under the anti-defection law. This statement comes as the deadline for responding to the notice was set to expire on October 8.

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, one of the rebel MPs, said that the MPs have not yet been able to collect all the documents required to prepare the reply, hence they have sought more time from the Lok Sabha Secretariat. The MPs were given time till October 8 by the Lok Sabha secretariat to submit their replies within the stipulated timeframe. However, their legal team could not complete the response as the deadline approached, prompting the MPs to seek additional time.

The disqualification notices were issued following a petition seeking action against the MPs under anti-defection provisions. The rebels have maintained that their decision to leave the TMC and align with the NCPI does not attract disqualification. Ghosh Dastidar stated that an urgent meeting of these 20 MPs is scheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m. in Kolkata to discuss the issue. The meeting is expected to discuss the Lok Sabha notice and further action.
