BJP names 8 candidates for Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sabha polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Central Election Committee announced eight nominees for the upcoming biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.

The party has named Radhakant Ojha, Prakash Pal, Dharampal Singh, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Priyanka Singh Rawat and Shruti Gangwar as its candidates.

CM Yogi Adityanath congratulated the nominees and extended ‘best wishes for the historic victory’. Ten Rajya Sabha seats are falling vacant in Uttar Pradesh, eight of which are currently held by the BJP, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) hold one each.

The elections to the Rajya Sabha will be held on October 16, 2026
