Indices remain in green in late morning deals
Oct-05-2026

Domestic equity indices remained in the green in late morning deals, supported by positive cues from global markets. Falling crude oil prices also supported domestic sentiment. Crude oil prices fall as rising crude exports from the Middle East and a release of oil stocks from Group of Seven nations are adding to supplies. Besides, support also came in as Prime Minister's Principal Secretary-2 Shaktikanta Das has said that the Indian economy is within striking distance of 8 per cent growth, supported by broad-based reforms including GST, flexible inflation targeting, banking reforms, and a commitment to fiscal prudence. However, gains remained capped as exchange data showed foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued their selling spree, offloading equities worth Rs 9,484.22 crore on October 01, 2026.

Both Sensex and Nifty were trading higher, with gains of around a quarter percent, owing to buying in Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, and Tata Consultancy Services. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in green, following positive cues from US markets on Friday, as weaker-than-expected U.S. monthly jobs data led to optimism the US Fed may hold off on raising interest rates later this month.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 72087.81, up by 178.11 points or 0.25% after trading in a range of 72023.84 and 72631.93. There were 19 stocks advancing against 11 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were FMCG up by 0.55%, Consumer Durables up by 0.53%, Utilities up by 0.53%, Power up by 0.49% and Bankex up by 0.39%, while Healthcare down by 1.09%, Metal down by 0.38%, Oil & Gas down by 0.33%, IT down by 0.29% and Basic Materials down by 0.29% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Bajaj Finance up by 3.41%, ITC up by 1.83%, Eternal up by 1.69%, Reliance Industries up by 1.65% and Bharti Airtel up by 1.54%. On the flip side, HCL Technologies down by 2.97%, Asian Paints down by 2.21%, Infosys down by 1.77%, HDFC Bank down by 1.40% and Sun Pharma down by 0.90% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, department of Economic Affairs (DEA) Secretary Anuradha Thakur has said that private investment in India is demonstrating clear signs of a strong revival despite global economic uncertainties, with capital formation in the first quarter of the current financial year (Q1FY27) growing at its fastest pace in more than three years. She said private companies are committing to new projects, especially in sectors such as power, data centres and metals. She added that banks are also increasing lending to industry, large and medium enterprises, as well as micro and small businesses.

DEA Secretary also highlighted that gross foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in the country reached $97 billion in FY26, while the positive momentum has continued into FY27, with India attracting around $30 billion in gross FDI during Q1FY27. She expressed confidence in India's ability to attract investment, saying credibility built through sustained fiscal discipline, reforms and deregulation would remain an important strength. Stressing the importance of a consistent and prudent fiscal path, she said ‘measures can be announced, but credibility that our country has earned is one that is gained through sustained efforts’. She also highlighted the durability of India's international economic partnerships, pointing to the signing of several free trade agreements (FTAs) in the last few years.

She further said ‘we have followed this path through steady reform, prudent macroeconomic management. The Centre's fiscal deficit has come down from a high of 9.2 per cent of GDP just five-six years back to a budgeted 4.3 per cent this year, and the fiscal anchor is moving in tune with global trends towards a declining debt-to-GDP ratio.’ Besides, she said inflation targeting, NPAs at multi-decadal lows, strong forex reserves and rating upgrades in the last few months are indications of robust fundamentals.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 22471.75, up by 49.80 points or 0.22% after trading in a range of 22451.70 and 22621.80. There were 29 stocks advancing against 21 stocks declining on the index.
