Rupee weakens against US dollar on Wednesday
Sep-23-2026

Indian rupee has weakened against US dollar on Wednesday amid persistent dollar strength following hawkish comments from several Federal Reserve officials, including St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem, Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin and Boston Fed President Susan Collins. The officials stressed that additional interest rate hikes may be needed to control inflation, hinting at further tightening. Besides, continuous fund outflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) weighed on the domestic currency. FIIs were the net sellers on Tuesday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 3,809.99 crore. On the global front, British pound has weakened against the US dollar on Wednesday following a weaker-than-expected UK PMI data.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.70 (Provisional), weakened by 8 paise from its previous close of 95.62 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.76 and 95.57 respectively.
