Rupee ends higher against US dollar as oil prices ease
Sep-21-2026

Indian rupee ended stronger against US dollar on Monday, as crude oil prices retreated from their elevated levels on improved global risk sentiment amid expectations of diplomatic talks between the US and Iran. Traders took support with the commerce ministry’s data showing that India's exports to core BRICS nations--China, South Africa, Brazil and Russia-- surged 34 per cent to $19.9 billion in April-August 2026-27 as compared to $14.9 billion in the corresponding period last year, highlighting the growing importance of the BRICS bloc for India's export growth. Moreover, positive domestic markets, fresh foreign fund inflows and softening of US Treasury yields gave the uptrend some momentum. On the global front, Sterling traded slightly lower on Monday while the euro also eased, as expectations of a more hawkish Federal Reserve kept the dollar on solid footing.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.78 (Provisional), strengthened by 18 paise from its previous close of 95.96 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.86 and 95.72 respectively.
