Sell-off continues over Dalal Street in early noon deals
Sep-11-2026

Indian equity indices continued to witness sell-off during early afternoon deals, impacted primarily by escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia, a surge in crude oil prices, rising global bond yields and growing concerns over inflation and interest rates. Both indices remained under pressure, with the Nifty showing a slightly sharper decline than the Sensex, amid stronger selling across the broader set of Nifty constituents.

On the global front, all Asian markets were trading lower, even after producer prices in Japan were down 0.2 percent on month in August. That missed expectations for a flat reading following the upwardly revised 0.4 percent increase in July (originally 0.1 percent).

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 74523.03, down by 379.56 points or 0.51% after trading in a range of 74160.16 and 74584.35. There were 11 stocks advancing against 19 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Telecom up by 0.98%, TECK up by 0.67%, IT up by 0.51% and Healthcare up by 0.05%, while Realty down by 3.46%, Metal down by 2.29%, Basic Materials down by 1.74%, Utilities down by 0.92% and Energy down by 0.90% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Tech Mahindra up by 2.20%, HCL Technologies up by 2.07%, Infosys up by 0.92%, Eternal up by 0.90% and Bharti Airtel up by 0.54%. On the flip side, Bajaj Finance down by 2.01%, Interglobe Aviation down by 1.93%, Tata Steel down by 1.88%, Reliance Industries down by 1.32% and Axis Bank down by 1.27% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, the Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that India aims to lead the world in the upcoming sixth-generation mobile technology and become a designer of global technology standards. Assuring India will lead the 6G race, he noted that the country had lagged the world on 4G but marched with the world on 5G and would lead the world on the sixth-generation mobile communication technology.

He highlighted the paradigm shift in India, from being a market for technology to becoming a technology maker. He added that India's 6G mission had already started and the Bharat 6G Alliance was working towards contributing to global standards. Underscoring India's progress in telecom connectivity, he said that the country now had 5G capability across 99.9% of its districts, covering 85% of the population, with more than 500,000 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) and capital expenditure of over Rs 4.5 lakh crore. Also, the country had become the ‘cheapest data capital of the world’, with data costs falling from Rs 287 per gigabyte (GB) to Rs 9 per GB.

Emphasizing the significance of digital infrastructure, Scindia said that the country's digital infrastructure was driving the growth of fintech, with the mobile phone becoming ‘the new bank branch’ and the telecom network becoming ‘the new financial highway’. He added that the next leap in fintech would be from connecting people to platforms to connecting intelligence with opportunity, with convergence between 5G, BharatNet, Aadhaar, UPI, fintech and AI. Besides, he stressed the need for greater digital security, saying the shift should be from detecting fraud after it happens to preventing it by anticipating risks before money leaves an account.
