Markets remain weak in late morning deals
Sep-11-2026

Domestic equity indices trimmed some of their losses but continued to trade lower in late morning deals, amid weak cues from global markets. Rising crude oil prices and Treasury yields in global markets weighed on investor sentiment. Crude oil prices rose as increasing attacks along key shipping routes in the Middle East fuel fears of a prolonged disruption to supplies. Market sentiment was further weighed down by weakness in the rupee, which fell 20 paise to 95.72 against the US dollar.

Sensex was trading lower by around half percent, while Nifty was down over half percent, amid selling in shares of Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, and Larsen & Toubro. On the global front, Asian markets were trading lower following negative cues from US markets overnight, amid concerns over a prolonged war between the U.S. and Iran.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 74542.38, down by 360.21 points or 0.48% after trading in a range of 74160.16 and 74556.94. There were 6 stocks advancing against 24 stocks declining on the index.

The few gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Telecom up by 1.27%, TECK up by 0.76% and IT up by 0.45%, while Realty down by 3.65%, Metal down by 2.26%, Basic Materials down by 1.65%, Industrials down by 0.98% and Utilities down by 0.96% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Tech Mahindra up by 1.84%, HCL Technologies up by 1.41%, ITC up by 0.68%, Infosys up by 0.63% and Bharti Airtel up by 0.44%. On the flip side, Bajaj Finance down by 2.08%, Interglobe Aviation down by 1.92%, Tata Steel down by 1.91%, Ultratech Cement down by 1.79% and Mahindra & Mahindra down by 1.75% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that India and Russia are fast-tracking negotiations for a new bilateral investment treaty (BIT) aimed at providing greater legal certainty to investors on both sides. He said that both sides are committed to the early conclusion of negotiations for an India-Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) free trade agreement. The Russia-led EAEU also includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. He said the pact would open new markets for industries including MSMEs.

The minister also called for an accelerated India-Russia economic and industrial partnership, urging businesses from both countries to work towards achieving the target of $100 billion in bilateral trade and $50 billion in two-way investment by 2030. At present, the bilateral trade stood at $60 billion. He said reaching the $100 billion target would require adding about $40 billion in trade over the next four years and sustained double-digit growth year-on-year. He stressed that achieving this would require significant efforts not only from the governments but equally from businesses in both countries.

Highlighting the opportunities for diversifying bilateral trade, he said that Indian exports of meat and edible meat products had more than doubled from $36 million to $97 million, an increase of nearly 170 per cent. Fish and aquatic products grew from $123 million to $159 million, an increase of nearly 30 per cent, while exports of edible vegetables rose from $38 million to $54 million, an increase of 40 per cent. Similarly, shipments of coffee, tea and spices increased by 13 per cent to $116 million, while products of the milling industry had nearly doubled. He said these figures reflected growing demand in the Russian market for products from Indian farmers, food processors, micro, small and medium enterprises and MSME exporters. However, he noted that only a small portion of the potential had been tapped so far.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 23341.85, down by 135.95 points or 0.58% after trading in a range of 23231.40 and 23353.15. There were 14 stocks advancing against 36 stocks declining on the index.
