Indian rupee weakens against US dollar on Wednesday as Brent crosses $100 per barrel mark
Sep-09-2026

Indian rupee has weakened against US dollar on Wednesday as Brent crude oil prices surged past $100 a barrel mark. The global crude oil prices have increased amid escalating tensions in West Asia after US military destroyed five Iranian crude tankers in retaliation for attempted attacks on an US warship. Further, fund outflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) weighed on rupee. FIIs were net sellers on Tuesday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 123.19 crore. Besides, investors took a cautious approach ahead of the release of crucial US inflation data, which could provide clues on US Federal Reserve interest rate trajectory. On the global front, euro has strengthened against US dollar on Wednesday ahead of European Central Bank policy meeting.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.08 (Provisional), weakened by 34 paise from its previous close of 94.74 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.22 and 94.80 respectively.
