Sensex, Nifty remain under grip of bears in early noon deals
Sep-08-2026

Indian equity benchmarks remained under the grip of bears in early afternoon deals, with escalating West Asia tensions and concerns over possible Federal Reserve rate hikes keeping investors on edge. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned the U.S. that any new U.S. attacks on Iran's oil and gas assets will draw a reciprocal response, stressing that energy infrastructure across the Persian Gulf, including U.S. oil and gas facilities, are vulnerable.

Both indices, Sensex and Nifty, continued to trade lower in early afternoon session, as investors kept a close eye on developments in the Middle East and awaited crucial U.S. inflation data this week, which could influence expectations around the Federal Reserve's September policy decision.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in red, even after China's exports and imports logged double-digit growth in August. Exports increased 25.0 percent year-on-year in August, faster than the 23.9 percent growth in July. The annual growth came in line with expectations.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 75697.94, down by 434.87 points or 0.57% after trading in a range of 75594.98 and 76012.11. There were 11 stocks advancing against 19 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Capital Goods up by 1.36%, FMCG up by 0.71%, Power up by 0.70%, Industrials up by 0.66% and Healthcare up by 0.66%, while Oil & Gas down by 0.82%, Energy down by 0.67%, Bankex down by 0.48%, TECK down by 0.29% and Auto down by 0.28% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Bharat Electronics up by 2.55%, Hindustan Unilever up by 1.01%, Adani Ports & SEZ up by 0.96%, Eternal up by 0.67% and ITC up by 0.55%. On the flip side, ICICI Bank down by 1.51%, Axis Bank down by 1.34%, Reliance Industries down by 1.21%, Maruti Suzuki India down by 1.15% and Bharti Airtel down by 1.10% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, in a move to promote ease of doing business, The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has enhanced the digital ecosystem for exporters by introducing an Open Application Programming Interface (API) facility for the issuance and verification of Certificates of Origin (CoO) through the Trade Connect e-Platform. The facility is now available for use by eligible exporters and their systems.

The Open API facility enables exporters to integrate their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), accounting or other business software directly with the DGFT’s CoO system. At present, exporters are required to enter CoO-related details separately on the DGFT platform, even when the same information is already available in their business software. The new facility enables electronic transfer of application data from the exporter’s system to the DGFT platform, thereby eliminating repetitive data entry, reducing errors and expediting the application process.

The facility supports both Preferential and Non-Preferential Certificates of Origin. Preferential CoOs are issued under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) and Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs), enabling exporters to claim applicable tariff concessions in the importing country. Non-Preferential CoOs are issued for customs clearance, compliance, trade remedy and other trade purposes without providing tariff benefits.

The framework covers major trade agreements and certification schemes, including India-Japan CEPA, India-Korea CEPA, SAFTA, SAPTA, ASEAN-India FTA, India-Singapore CECA, India-Malaysia CECA, India-Chile PTA, India-Mercosur PTA, India-UAE CEPA, India-Australia ECTA, India-Oman CEPA, India-EFTA TEPA, India-UK CETA, the Generalized System of Preferences and the Non-Preferential CoO Scheme. The system automatically applies the relevant fields, origin criteria and validation rules based on the agreement or certification scheme selected by the exporter.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 23667.95, down by 111.20 points or 0.47% after trading in a range of 23637.75 and 23758.95. There were 19 stocks advancing against 29 stocks declining, while 2 stocks remained unchanged on the index.
