Sensex, Nifty stage some recovery in early noon deals
Aug-25-2026

Indian equity benchmarks staged some recovery during early afternoon deals to come off their intraday low points, aided by buying at telecom counters along with positive cues from other Asian markets. Adding some relief among traders, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal has highlighted India’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals and growing attractiveness as a long-term investment destination during his engagement with senior leaders of leading Japanese financial and investment institutions in Tokyo. He said that India recorded 7.7 per cent growth last year despite global uncertainties and is working towards becoming a $30 trillion economy by 2047.

However, both the indices remained in red, with the Nifty declining more sharply than the Sensex. The Nifty fell around 0.20%, compared with a 0.06% decline in the Sensex. Elevated crude oil prices and continuing Middle East tensions kept investors cautious, while expiry-related volatility also added to market pressure. Investors were focusing on the Nifty 50's first monthly derivatives expiry under the new closing auction session for stocks with futures and options contracts tied to them.

On the global front, all Asian markets were trading in green, after Japan's leading index remained stable in June, slightly higher than seen in the flash estimate. The flash score for June was also 116.4.

He added that stringent certification and regulatory requirements too are among key concerns for exporters, particularly for pharmaceutical companies in the Japanese market. He has called for greater recognition of Indian certifications in Tokyo to improve market access. Besides, he flagged the bias of buying products within Japan of Japanese companies as another concern for exporters and has emphasized the need for cultural opening.

On India-Japan collaboration in Africa, he noted that India and Japan have significant scope for collaboration in areas such as high-tech manufacturing, artificial intelligence, data centres, shipbuilding, critical minerals, steel and semiconductors. He added that both the countries can jointly work towards investing more in Africa and selling more to Africa. Also, critical minerals are key areas where the two countries can collaborate in Africa.
