Key gauges continue to trade marginally higher in morning deals
Aug-24-2026

Indian equity benchmarks continued to trade marginally in green in morning deals, as easing crude oil prices provided some relief. Traders took some support with the report stated that India is enhancing its focus on South America as part of its trade diversification strategy, particularly Chile, Argentina, and Brazil, which present significant export opportunities and are expected to strengthen trade ties during Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal's visit from August 24 to 28. However, gains remain capped as investors awaited clarity on potential US sanctions on Iran later in the session amid elevated geopolitical tensions.

Both Sensex and Nifty managed to keep their heads above water, driven by buying in blue-chip stocks Infosys, Interglobe Aviation and HCL Technologies. However, gains were limited as exchange data showed Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers for the second straight session on Friday, offloading Indian equities worth Rs 542.71 crore. On the global front, Asian markets are trading lower amid continued uncertainty over the opening of the Strait of Hormuz after US President Donald Trump said the U.S. naval blockade would remain in place until Iran is ready to make a deal.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 77633.51, up by 92.68 points or 0.12% after trading in a range of 77601.37 and 77789.40. There were 14 stocks advancing against 16 stocks declining on the index.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has said the amendment in certain provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy to make it easier for exporters to invoice overseas sales and receive payments in Indian rupees. The move will promote rupee internationalisation in trade settlement while providing exporters greater flexibility and certainty. Sanjay Budhia, Chairman of the CII National Committee on EXIM, said Indian industry remains committed to working closely with the government to build on this momentum and further deepen India's global trade competitiveness.

The notification by the directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) has made it easier for exporters to invoice overseas transactions and receive payments in Indian rupees. He said that Indian industry supports the government's continued efforts to streamline and modernise India's foreign trade framework, further easing the ecosystem for exporters.

He noted that rupee export proceeds, other than for Nepal and Bhutan, routed through approved banking channels will now qualify for FTP benefits and count toward fulfilment of Export Obligations, at par with foreign-currency realisations. He added ‘This marks a further step in the government's push for wider international use of the rupee. This move strengthens the push for rupee internationalisation in trade settlement while giving exporters greater flexibility and certainty.’
