Jul-29-2026

Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy Shripad Naik said that India witnessed 8,133 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of solar power curtailment during April-June 2026 as the grid was unable to absorb excess daytime generation. He said of the total curtailed power, 2,417 GWh was recorded in April, 3,235 GWh in May and 2,481 GWh in June.

The minister stated that solar power curtailment and restriction are being carried out to maintain grid security and due to mismatch between commissioning of transmission lines and renewable energy (RE) projects. Besides, he said PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG:MBY) is a demand-driven scheme wherein all residential consumers in the country, having a grid-connected electricity connection with local DISCOMs, can avail benefits of the scheme, for installation of rooftop solar systems (RTS) by applying on a national portal.

He also highlighted the progress of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, stating that since its launch in February 2024, the scheme has received 75,25,418 applications, enabled the installation of 39,72,447 rooftop solar systems, and benefited 48,02,717 households across the country, including rural areas, as of July 22, 2026. The government has disbursed Rs 27,343.90 crore as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under the scheme.
