Markets add more gains in late trade

Indian equity markets add more gains in late afternoon session as Brent crude oil prices plummet over 8% to trade near $89 a barrel after the US and Iran refrained from fighting while discussing a possible resumption of negotiations on an interim ceasefire deal. Sentiments also remained upbeat as Indian rupee strengthened by 65 paise against US dollar to trade at 95.88 with easing geopolitical tensions. Further, IT stocks were in limelight amid easing worries of imminent interest rate hike by US Federal Reserve. 

On the global front, Asian equity markets were trading mostly in green, while European equity markets were trading higher as crude oil prices cooled off, helping ease inflation and interest-rate concerns ahead of crucial Fed, BoE and BoJ central bank meetings due this week. 

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 76842.77, up by 783.00 points or 1.03% after trading in a range of 76517.85 and 76901.51. There were 24 stocks advancing against 6 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were IT up by 2.40%, Realty up by 1.84%, Consumer Discretionary up by 1.63%, TECK up by 1.54% and Healthcare up by 1.50%, while Telecom down by 0.34% and Energy down by 0.02% were the only losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Eternal up by 5.57%, Interglobe Aviation up by 4.69%, Bajaj Finance up by 3.63%, Infosys up by 3.63% and Asian Paints up by 3.02%. On the flip side, HDFC Bank down by 0.26%, Ultratech Cement down by 0.25%, Adani Ports & SEZ down by 0.23%, Axis Bank down by 0.22% and Power Grid Corporation down by 0.05% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, in a major push for the chemical industry, the Union Cabinet has approved Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana Rasayan (BHAVYA - Rasayan) Scheme for setting up three dedicated Chemical Parks in India. The initiative, announced in the Union Budget FY 2026-27, is expected to attract domestic and foreign investments, enhance domestic production capacity and generate employment. It will also boost the global competitiveness of the sector thereby promoting Atmanirbharta.

The Scheme will have a total financial outlay of Rs 3,030 crore, with Rs 3,000 crore towards meeting the cost of establishing the Common Infrastructure Facilities and Basic Utilities inside the park and Rs 30 crore as administrative expenditure. The scheme would run for a period of 5 years from FY 2026-27 to FY 2030-31. The Centre would provide a grant of up to Rs 1,000 crore per park. This will be subject to minimum contribution of Rs 500 crore by the concerned State Government.

The BHAVYA Rasayan Scheme will promote development of the Chemical industry along the whole value chains including upstream, downstream and ancillary industries promoting efficient utilization of resources, leading to lower logistics cost. The development of Chemical sector will lead to a cascading effect through enhanced development of downstream sectors of the economy as well, thereby leading to higher employment generation and greater development of the economy, helping achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 23998.10, up by 230.65 points or 0.97% after trading in a range of 23891.55 and 24011.60. There were 42 stocks advancing against 8 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Eternal up by 5.59%, Interglobe Aviation up by 4.51%, Infosys up by 3.68%, Bajaj Finance up by 3.24% and Shriram Finance up by 3.20%. On the flip side, ONGC down by 3.69%, Cipla down by 0.79%, HDFC Life Insurance down by 0.61%, HDFC Bank down by 0.21% and Adani Ports & SEZ down by 0.06% were the top losers.

Asian equity markets were trading mostly in green; Nikkei 225 surged 231.85 points or 0.36% to 64,843.00, Hang Seng advanced 266.77 points or 1.06% to 25,230.00, KOSPI increased 65.13 points or 0.96% to 6,755.75, Straits Times rose 23.95 points or 0.43% to 5,612.29 and Shanghai Composite strengthened 44.05 points or 1.14% to 3,858.25, while Taiwan Weighted lost 20.65 points or 0.05% to 43,634.19 and Jakarta Composite plunged 36.79 points or 0.6% to 6,159.64.

European equity markets were trading higher; UK’s FTSE 100 increased 47.9 points or 0.44% to 10,784.13, France’s CAC rose 63.02 points or 0.75% to 8,435.30 and Germany’s DAX gained 399.4 points or 1.57% to 25,498.40.
