Key gauges remain in green in morning deals

Indian equity benchmarks continued to trade in green in morning deals, led by IT, TECK and Oil & Gas stocks despite uncertainties around escalating conflict in the Middle East. Traders took support with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) preliminary data on India’s balance of payments (BoP) showed that India recorded a current account (net) surplus of $2.8 billion during April-May 2026, compared with a deficit of $4.1 billion in the corresponding period last year, mainly aided by higher inward remittances from abroad and a rise in services exports. Some support also came as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India and the 27-nation European Union have concluded a work programme on FDI screening, with both sides exchanging best practices to further accelerate investment flows. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in red amid a selloff in global semiconductor and technology stocks, which reignited concerns over AI valuations. Traders also kept an eye on the escalating conflict between the U.S. and Iran. 

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 77341.78, up by 156.35 points or 0.20% after trading in a range of 77276.52 and 77514.30. There were 20 stocks advancing against 10 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were IT up by 1.43%, TECK up by 1.02%, Oil & Gas up by 0.91%, Consumer Durables up by 0.82% and Energy up by 0.76%, while Realty down by 0.35%, Capital Goods down by 0.34%, Industrials down by 0.33%, Bankex down by 0.28% and Power down by 0.06% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were HCL Technologies up by 2.60%, Tech Mahindra up by 1.93%, Mahindra & Mahindra up by 1.41%, Infosys up by 1.38% and Bajaj Finance up by 1.12%. On the flip side, Eternal down by 0.61%, Axis Bank down by 0.56%, HDFC Bank down by 0.52%, Larsen & Toubro down by 0.47% and Bajaj Finserv down by 0.43% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) preliminary data on India’s balance of payments (BoP) has showed that India recorded a current account (net) surplus of $2.8 billion during April-May 2026, compared with a deficit of $4.1 billion in the corresponding period last year, mainly aided by higher inward remittances from abroad and a rise in services exports. 

However, the country’s overall balance of payments registered a deficit of $11 billion during the first two months of the current fiscal year, compared to a surplus of $5 billion in the same period last year. The merchandise trade deficit widened to $55.9 billion during the first two months of 2026-27 from $49.7 billion during April-May last fiscal year. Imports rose to $146.5 billion during the period under review from $127.1 billion, while exports increased to $90.7 billion from $77.4 billion.

According to the data, net services receipts increased to $34.3 billion in April-May 2026 from $31.7 billion in the year-ago period. Services exports rose to $70.4 billion from $65.3 billion in April-May 2025. Net transfers, which include inward remittances from overseas, rose to $29.6 billion during April-May 2026 from $20 billion in the year-ago period.

The data also showed that the net income outgo improved marginally to $5.2 billion from $6 billion. On the capital account side, net foreign direct investment stood at $6.5 billion during April-May 2026, up from $2.5 billion in the corresponding period last year. On the other hand, net foreign portfolio investment recorded a larger outflow of $12 billion compared to $0.8 billion a year ago.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 24113.75, up by 35.25 points or 0.15% after trading in a range of 24097.05 and 24167.40. There were 31 stocks advancing against 19 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were HCL Technologies up by 2.65%, Tech Mahindra up by 1.94%, Wipro up by 1.76%, Mahindra & Mahindra up by 1.43% and Infosys up by 1.32%. On the flip side, SBI Life Insurance down by 2.30%, HDFC Life Insurance down by 1.13%, Shriram Finance down by 0.62%, Axis Bank down by 0.57% and HDFC Bank down by 0.53% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mostly in red; Nikkei 225 slipped 1951.51 points or 2.84% to 66,800.00, Taiwan Weighted lost 186.12 points or 0.41% to 45,445.47, Shanghai Composite weakened 42.79 points or 1.08% to 3,912.79, KOSPI dropped 447.16 points or 6.14% to 6,837.25 and Straits Times fell 29.41 points or 0.53% to 5,530.31.

On the flip side, Jakarta Composite gained 22.49 points or 0.37% to 6,064.46 and Hang Seng advanced 462.9 points or 1.88% to 25,144.00.
