Rupee depreciates against dollar on Thursday
Jan-08-2026

Indian rupee depreciated against the U.S. dollar on Thursday weighed down by Foreign Institutional Investors’ (FIIs) fund outflows. FIIs were the net sellers on Wednesday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 1,527.71 crore. Besides, the US President Donald Trump’s recent threats of raising tariffs on Indian goods following country's Russian Crude oil purchases weighed on investors’ sentiments. However, depreciation was limited amid Reserve Bank of India’s efforts to cap fall in the rupee.

Finally, the rupee ended at 89.92 (Provisional), depreciated by 5 paise from its previous close of 89.87 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 90.14 and 89.73 respectively.
