Markets trade flat after positive start amid continued foreign fund outflows
Dec-17-2025

Indian equity benchmarks made a positive start on Wednesday tracking gains in other Asian counterparts. Soon, markets turned volatile and were trading flat in early deals amid continued foreign fund outflows. FIIs were net sellers of shares worth Rs 2,382 crore on Tuesday, as per provisional data available on the exchanges. However, downside remained capped as the rupee recovered sharply against the US dollar on Wednesday, rising more than 1%, after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intervened in the foreign exchange market to curb volatility following four straight sessions of all-time lows. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought to double India-Jordan bilateral trade to $5 billion over the next five years, as he invited Jordanian companies to take advantage of the country's high economic growth and reap handsome returns.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly higher, aided by a mild recovery in the battered technology sector, although rising uncertainty over the U.S. economy limited overall gains. Back home, energy stocks were in focus after the price of crude oil plummeted to its lowest levels since early 2021 overnight.
