Retail inflation inched up to 0.71% in November

India's retail inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), inched up to 0.71 per cent in the month of November 2025, as compared to 0.25 per cent in October 2025 and 5.48 per cent in November 2024. The increase in headline inflation is mainly attributed to increase in inflation of Vegetables, Egg, Meat and fish, Spices and Fuel and light. Retail inflation has remained well below the Reserve Bank of India's 2 per cent -6 per cent band target. Besides, food inflation stood at (-) 3.91 per cent compared to (-) 5.02 per cent in October. 

The NSO, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) in its data has showed that Rural CPI (General) in November 2025 stood at 0.10 per cent over (-) 0.25 per cent in October 2025.  The Urban CPI (General) stood at 1.40 per cent in November as against 0.88 per cent in October. The index value for Rural, Urban and Combined CPI (General) stood at 199.6, 195.9 and 197.9 respectively, in November 2025. The price data are collected from selected 1181 villages and 1114 urban Markets covering all States/UTs through personal visits by field staff of Field Operations Division of NSO, MoSPI on a weekly roster. During the month of November, 2025, NSO collected prices from 100.00% villages and 98.47 per cent urban markets while the market-wise prices reported therein were 89.08 per cent for rural and 92.44 per cent for urban.

Besides, inflation in Food and beverage stood at (-) 2.78 per cent in November 2025 compared to (-) 3.72 per cent in October 2025, with prices of vegetable coming at (-) 22.20 per cent in the reporting month from (-) 27.57 per cent in the previous month. Inflation in pulses and products remained in deflationary territory at (-) 15.86 per cent in November over (-) 16.15 per cent in October. Inflation in meat and fish increased to 2.50 per cent in November from 1.74 per cent in preceding month. The inflation rate for milk and products inched up to 2.45 per cent in November October from 2.35 per cent in October. However, inflation for cereals came down to 0.10 per cent in November from 0.92 per cent in October. 

Clothing and footwear inflation for the month of November came down to 1.49 per cent from 1.70 per cent in October, while Housing inflation slightly down at 2.95 per cent in the reporting month from 2.96 per cent in the prior month. Transport and communication inflation fell to 0.88 per cent in November from 0.94 per cent in October and health inflation slowed to 3.60 per cent in November from 3.86 per cent in October. Besides, education inflation fell to 3.38 per cent in November from 3.49 per cent in October. Moreover, fuel and light inflation jumped to 2.32 per cent in November as compared to 1.98 per cent the previous month.
