In volatile trading session, Indian equity benchmarks ended with marginal losses on Tuesday on account of recovery in last leg of trade. Markets made cautious start and continued their trade in negative territory for most part of the session amid monthly F&O expiry. Traders maintained risk adverse approach ahead of India’s Industrial Production data, to be out later in day. In afternoon session, indices trimmed some of their losses but soon touched day’s low levels. However, in last leg of trade, markets off day’s low and ended with minor losses. 

Some of the important factors in trade:

Business sentiments in India moderates in Q2FY26: NCAER in its latest Business Expectations Survey has said that business sentiments in India moderated in the second quarter of the current fiscal year (Q2FY26), following three consecutive quarters of improvement, amid high global uncertainties, including additional US tariffs.

Foreign fund outflows: Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 55.58 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.

MSME sector key driver of India's economic growth, employment generation: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Swaminathan J has acknowledged the critical role of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector and asserted that it is the key driver of India's economic growth and employment generation.

Global front: European markets were trading mostly in red as investors looked forward to key central bank meetings. Asian markets ended mostly in red as investors locked in some profits after recent gains and looked ahead to the planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in South Korea for direction.

The BSE Sensex ended at 84,628.16, down by 150.68 points or 0.18% after trading in a range of 84,219.39 and 84,986.94. There were 9 stocks advancing against 21 stocks declining on the index. (Provisional)

The broader indices ended in green; the BSE Mid cap index gained 0.12%, while Small cap index was up by 0.06%. (Provisional)

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Metal up by 1.30%, Basic Materials up by 0.55%, Industrials up by 0.21% and Bankex was up by 0.06%, while Realty down by 1.00%, Utilities down by 0.82%, Consumer Durables down by 0.64%, Oil & Gas down by 0.63% and IT was down by 0.60% were the top losing indices on BSE. The top gainers on the Sensex were Tata Steel up by 2.89%, Larsen & Toubro up by 1.41%, SBI up by 0.81%, Kotak Mahindra Bank up by 0.59% and Tata Motors Passenger up by 0.37%. On the flip side, Trent down by 1.44%, Tech Mahindra down by 1.03%, Bajaj Finserv down by 1.00%, HCL Tech down by 0.89% and Mahindra & Mahindra down by 0.86% were the top losers. (Provisional)

Meanwhile, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the government has approved seven projects worth Rs 5,532 crore, out of 249 proposals received under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme. He said the production of electronics components from the approved projects is likely to reduce the import bill of around Rs 20,000 crore.

Moreover, he stated that proposals for the manufacturing of multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCBs) or motherboard base, camera modules, copper laminates, and polypropylene films (used in capacitors for consumer electronics) have been approved. Approvals have been granted for four projects from the Kaynes Group, and one project each from Syrma Group, Ascent Circuits of Amber Group, and SRF. Kaynes' four projects at an investment of Rs 3,280 crore comprise the production of multi-layer PCBs worth Rs 4,300 crore, camera module sub-assembly worth Rs 12,630 crore and HDI (High-Density Interconnect) PCBs worth Rs 6,875 crore.

The Ascent Circuits project, entailing Rs 991 crore investment, is likely to produce multi-layer PCB worth Rs 7,847 crore, Syrma Strategic Electronics' Rs 765 crore investment would make multi-layer PCB worth Rs 6,933 crore, and SRF's investment proposal of Rs 496 crore is estimated to produce polypropylene film worth Rs 1,311 crore.  Vaishnaw said the PCB projects approved in the initial phase will meet 27 per cent of the total domestic demand and 15 per cent of the camera modules requirement. He said that first copper laminates and polypropylene films used in capacitors will be made in India, and they will meet 100 per cent of the domestic demand.

The CNX Nifty ended at 25,936.20, down by 29.85 points or 0.11% after trading in a range of 25,810.05 and 26,041.70. There were 20 stocks advancing against 30 stocks declining on the index. (Provisional)

The top gainers on Nifty were Tata Steel up by 2.92%, JSW Steel up by 2.92%, SBI Life up by 1.77%, Eicher Motors up by 1.39% and HDFC Life Insurance up by 1.32%. On the flip side, Trent down by 1.53%, Bajaj Finserv down by 1.38%, Coal India down by 1.34%, ONGC down by 1.08% and Bajaj Finance was down by 1.07% were the top losers. (Provisional)

European markets were trading mostly in red; France’s CAC fell 20.88 points or 0.25% to 8,218.30 and Germany’s DAX was down by 69.28 points or 0.28% to 24,239.50. On the flip side, UK’s FTSE 100 was up by 0.68 points or 0.01% to 9,654.50.

Asian markets settled mostly down on Tuesday due to investors’ cautiousness ahead of major events expected around the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering this week, the Korea-US summit scheduled on the October 29 and the US-China summit on the October 30. Investors are also awaiting a slew of central bank meetings and results from mega-cap US technology companies. Japan's Nikkei slipped from record highs due to profit taking and after US President Donald Trump signed a rare metals deal with Japan's newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Although, the ASEAN and China today signed an upgraded version of their Free Trade Agreement during the summit in Kuala Lumpur, enhancing cooperation amid global trade tensions.
