Bourses maintain gaining momentum in early afternoon session

Indian markets maintained their gaining momentum in early afternoon session tracing positive cues from other Asian markets. Investors were braced for U.S. Federal Reserve's rate decision during this week and key meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week. Traders took note of report that Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit Brussels on October 27 for talks with his EU counterpart to give political impetus to the proposed trade pact, as the deadline to conclude negotiations nears. Sector wise, automobile sector remained in limelight as SIAM in its latest data has showed that total passenger vehicle exports rose to 4,45,884 units in the first half of the current fiscal year (H1 FY26) as compared with 3,76,679 units in the year-ago period. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in green as China's industrial profits increased sharply in September despite continuing trade tensions with the US. Industrial profits advanced 21.6 percent in September from the previous year. 

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 84856.55, up by 644.67 points or 0.77% after trading in a range of 84294.20 and 84932.08. There were 23 stocks advancing against 7 stocks declining on the index.

The broader indices were trading in green; the BSE Mid cap index gained 0.61%, while Small cap index was up by 0.42%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Telecom up by 3.04%, Realty up by 1.57%, TECK up by 1.15%, Metal up by 1.06% and Energy was up by 1.02%, while Healthcare was down by 0.07% were the only losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Bharti Airtel up by 3.00%, Reliance Industries up by 2.12%, Tata Motors Passenger up by 1.76%, Tata Steel up by 1.69% and Tech Mahindra up by 1.43%. On the flip side, Bharat Electronics down by 1.42%, Infosys down by 1.35%, Kotak Mahindra Bank down by 1.02%, Bajaj Finance down by 0.96% and Adani Ports down by 0.43% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) in its latest data has showed that total passenger vehicle exports rose to 4,45,884 units in the first half of the current fiscal year (H1 FY26) as compared with 3,76,679 units in the year-ago period, an increase of 18.4 per cent, with Maruti Suzuki leading the segment with shipment of over 2 lakh units. 

According to the data, passenger car shipments rose to 2,29,281 units in the period under review, an increase of 12 per cent as against 2,05,091 units in the April-September period of 2024-25. Similarly, utility vehicle exports to overseas markets rose 26 per cent year on year to 2,11,373 units in the April-September period of the current fiscal. Van shipments rose 36.5 per cent year on year to 5,230 units in H1 FY26.  

The SIAM has attributed the growth in passenger vehicle exports to stable demand across global markets, particularly robust performance in the Middle East and Latin America. Reflecting a clear trend of market diversification, Indian exporters have registered a positive growth in 24 countries during the H1 FY26, even as shipments to the US declined due to high tariffs in September. These 24 countries include Korea, UAE, Germany, Togo, Egypt, Vietnam, Iraq, Mexico, Russia, Kenya, Nigeria, Canada, Poland, Sri Lanka, Oman, Thailand, Bangladesh, Brazil, Belgium, Italy and Tanzania.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 25987.00, up by 191.85 points or 0.74% after trading in a range of 25827.00 and 26005.95. There were 39 stocks advancing against 11 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were SBI Life up by 3.33%, Bharti Airtel up by 3.05%, Reliance Industries up by 2.15%, Hindalco up by 2.05% and Tata Motors Passenger up by 1.76%. On the flip side, Bharat Electronics down by 1.53%, Infosys down by 1.27%, Kotak Mahindra Bank down by 1.13%, Bajaj Finance down by 0.99% and ONGC down by 0.92% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mostly in green; Nikkei 225 surged 1148.35 points or 2.28% to 50,448.00, Taiwan Weighted added 461.37 points or 1.65% to 27,993.63, Hang Seng advanced 293.85 points or 1.11% to 26,454.00, KOSPI increased 101.24 points or 2.5% to 4,042.83, Shanghai Composite strengthened 45.93 points or 1.15% to 3,996.24 and Straits Times was up by 20.37 points or 0.46% to 4,442.58. On the flip side, Jakarta Composite was down by 252.19 points or 3.14% to 8,019.53.
