Bourses trade at day’s high levels in early afternoon session

Indian markets traded at day’s high levels in early afternoon session as traders preferred to buy fundamental strong stocks. Traders took note of report that commerce ministry has indicated that the India and Brazil have agreed to expand the scope of existing preferential trade agreement (PTA) between New Delhi and four South American nation bloc Mercosur to boost economic ties. Mercosur is a trading bloc in Latin America, comprising Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. The ministry stated that the countries have agreed to try to conclude the negotiations within one year from the launch of negotiations. 

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in red with escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and China and renewed concerns about the U.S. banking sector after bad loans recently led to the bankruptcies of two auto industry-related companies, First Brands and Tricolor Holdings. 

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 84010.23, up by 542.57 points or 0.65% after trading in a range of 83206.08 and 84162.71. There were 20 stocks advancing against 10 stocks declining on the index.

The broader indices were trading in red; the BSE Mid cap index declined 0.17%, while Small cap index was down by 0.17%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Consumer Durables up by 1.53%, FMCG up by 1.33%, Telecom up by 1.02%, Auto up by 0.59% and Bankex was up by 0.51%, while IT down by 1.36%, Oil & Gas down by 0.30%, TECK down by 0.26%, Basic Materials down by 0.23% and Metal was down by 0.23% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Asian Paints up by 4.54%, Bharti Airtel up by 2.81%, Mahindra & Mahindra up by 1.99%, ITC up by 1.75% and Hindustan Unilever up by 1.72%. On the flip side, Eternal down by 2.86%, Infosys down by 1.96%, HCL Tech down by 1.18%, Tech Mahindra down by 0.96% and Tata Steel down by 0.55% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, India and Australia have discussed ways to enhance cooperation and promote dialogue in the field of energy efficiency and enabling technologies. India and Australia held the 5th Meeting of the India-Australia Energy Dialogue in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Manohar Lal, Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Chris Bowen MP, Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Commonwealth Government of Australia.

The power ministry said recognising the role of green hydrogen, both the countries reaffirmed commitment to being reliable and trusted trading partners for energy resources, and recognised the importance of diversified, secure, and resilient supply chains. 

The discussions covered aspects of global transition to net zero emissions, practical cooperation and promoting dialogue in the field of energy efficiency and enabling technologies. The ministers also underlined that the India-Australia partnership continues to play a pivotal role in advancing secure, robust, and sustainable energy systems in the Indo-Pacific region.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 25741.55, up by 156.25 points or 0.61% after trading in a range of 25508.60 and 25776.75. There were 34 stocks advancing against 16 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Asian Paints up by 4.55%, Bharti Airtel up by 3.03%, Apollo Hospital up by 2.43%, Max Healthcare Inst up by 2.41% and Mahindra & Mahindra up by 1.96%. On the flip side, Wipro down by 4.87%, Eternal down by 2.70%, Infosys down by 1.89%, HCL Tech down by 1.19% and JIO Financial down by 1.04% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mostly in red; Nikkei 225 slipped 722.74 points or 1.52% to 47,555.00, Hang Seng declined 542.51 points or 2.1% to 25,346.00, Taiwan Weighted lost 345.5 points or 1.27% to 27,302.37, Jakarta Composite plunged 180.47 points or 2.27% to 7,944.29, Shanghai Composite weakened 72.27 points or 1.85% to 3,843.96 and Straits Times was down by 24.07 points or 0.55% to 4,332.13. On the flip side, KOSPI was up by 2.58 points or 0.07% to 3,750.95.
