Ten BJP MPs who won in state elections resign from Parliament

After winning the assembly elections 2023 held in five states of the country, 10 BJP MPs submitted their resignations to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. 

BJP chief JP Nadda led the delegation of the MPs to meet the Speaker to submit their resignation. The MPs who resigned included Narendra Tomar, Prahlad Patel, Riti Pathak, Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap Singh from Madhya Pradesh. From Rajasthan, the MPs who submitted their resignation included Rajyavardhan Rathore, Kirodi Lal Meena and Diya Kumari, while Arun Sao and Gomti Sai were the MPs from Chhattisgarh. Two remaining leaders, Union Minister Renuka Singh and MP Mahant Balaknath, will also handover their resignations. Minister of State for Food Processing Industries of India Prahlad Patel said ‘after meeting BJP president JP Nadda, I have resigned as Lok Sabha MP. Soon, I will also resign from the Cabinet’.

The BJP had fielded 21 MPs in the assembly elections, out of which 12 MPs won and 9 MPs lost.  Many of the BJP leaders who quit Parliament today are believed to be in the race to become chief ministers of the three states the party won on Sunday - Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh.
