Rice exports dip sharply by 28.2% during April-June 2019
Aug-13-2019

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has stated that rice shipment of India dipped sharply by 28.2% to 2.35 million tonnes (MT) during April-June 2019 compared to last year same period. The decline is mainly due to weak demand for non-basmati rice from African buyers and as the exporters absorb the absence of government incentives that supported previous sales.

The country's non-basmati rice exports tumbled 43% to 1.2 MT during the period under review. New Delhi is the world's biggest exporter of rice, buffalo meat and guar gum.

APEDA said the country's buffalo meat shipments during the period weakened to 275,398 tonnes from 276,450 tonnes a year ago. India's guar gum exports eased by 5.5% to 127,700 tonnes on lower demand from the United States, while pulses exports more than halved to 45,344 tonnes.
