India’s crude steel production rises around 4% in November

Indian crude steel production increased around 4% in November 2018 to 8.92 million tonne (MT) comparing previous year same period's 8.60 MT, as per the reports of Joint Plant Committee (JPC). State-run SAIL, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, Tata Steel, Essar Steel, JSW Steel and Jindal Steel and Power together reported crude steel output of 5.42 MT, 8% rise from last year's 5.01 MT. The rest 3.50 MT crude steel came from other producers.

The overall production of finished steel stood at 10.87 MT in the reported month, an increase of 3.6% from last year same month's 10.50 MT .During November, India's hot metal production stood at 6.15 MT, climbed 8.6 % from the year-ago period. The output of pig iron rose to 0.49 MT from 0.47 MT in November 2017.

The national steel policy approved by Union Cabinet of India, aims to increase crude steel production to 300 MT by 2030 with an investment of Rs 10 trillion. JPC is the only institution in India that collects and maintains data on domestic steel and iron sector.
