India’s total foodgrain production likely to touch record 330.53 million tonne in 2022-23 crop year

The Ministry of Agricultureand Farmers Welfare in its Third Advance Estimates of production of major crops for agricultural year 2022-23 has showed that the total foodgrain production is estimated to touch a record 330.53 million tonne in the 2022-23 crop year against the actual output of 315.61 million tonnes in the previous crop year, up by 14.92 million tonne or 4.73 per cent.

As per the data, the country's wheat production is estimated to set a new record of 112.74 million tonne in the 2022-23 crop year (July-June). The country's overall wheat production has surpassed the government's target of 112 million tonne set for the current year, notwithstanding unseasonal rains during the harvesting period.

Total production of Rice during 2022-23 is estimated at (record) 135.54 million tonne. Production of Maize in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at (record) 35.91 million tonne, while production of Nutri / Coarse Cerealsis estimated at 54.74 million tonne. The production of Moong is estimated at 3.74 million tonne.

Total Pulses production during 2022-23 is estimated at 27.50 million tonne. The production of Soybean and Rapeseed & Mustard is estimated at 14.97 million tonne and 12.49 million tonne respectively. Total Oil seeds production in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at record 40.99 million tonne.

Total production of Sugarcanein the country during 2022-23 is estimated at record 494.22 million tonne.  Production of Cotton is estimated at 343.47 lakh bales (of 170 kg each) and production of Jute & Mesta is estimated at 94.94 lakh bales (of 180 kg each).
