Jan-20-2020

Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) in its latest report stated that India’s sugar production dipped by 26.15% to 10.88 million tonnes during October 1, 2019 and January 15, 2020 of the current marketing year (October-September), as compared to output was 14.74 million tonnes during October-January 15 of the 2018-19 marketing year.

Mills in Maharashtra have produced 2.55 million tonnes of sugar declined from 5.72 million tonnes during the same period a year ago. The production in Karnataka declined by 18.16% to 2.19 million tonne as against 2.67 million tonne in the said period. Whereas production in Uttar Pradesh rose to 4.37 million tonne so far when compared to 4.19 million tonne a year ago.

ISMA estimated that sugar production of India in 2019/20 might decline to the lowest level in three years, about 20% to 26.3 million tonnes, due to drought in 2018 forced farmers to curb cane planting and flooding damaged crops in key growing areas in 2019.
