Copper futures trade lower on Monday
Sep-07-2026
Copper futures were trading lower on Monday after stronger-than-expected August nonfarm payrolls report reinforced expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike in September. Focus now turned to US inflation figures due this week for further cues on US interest rate trajectory. Copper prices weakened further following US-Iran strikes on vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. However, uncertainty over tariffs continues to encourage copper shipments into the United States, pushed Comex inventories to record levels and limited further falls in copper prices.

Copper futures for December delivery fell $0.0345 or 0.52% at $6.6480 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange.
