Crude oil futures end lower amid weak demand outlook
Aug-14-2026

Crude oil futures ended lower on Thursday as investors monitored diplomatic efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, global oil demand is expected to decline more sharply than previously anticipated, with the International Energy Agency cutting its global oil demand outlook this week and Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) also lowering its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2026.

Benchmark crude oil futures for September delivery decreased by $2.02 or 2.43% to settle at $81.25 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for October delivery declined by $1.91 or 2.15% to settle at $87.07 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
