Crude oil futures end lower as Trump holds off Iran attack
Aug-04-2026

Crude oil futures ended lower on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump held off on a fresh attack on Iran in the hope of sealing a quick deal that could boost oil supplies from the Gulf. However, Iran's staunch denial of negotiating with the U.S. kept up the tensions and limited the decline.

Benchmark crude oil futures for September delivery decreased by $4.33 or 5.11% to settle at $80.34 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for October delivery was down by $4.16 or 4.73% to settle at $83.77 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
