Crude oil futures settle lower on Thursday

Crude oil futures settled lower on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump remarked that Iran is seeking a deal with the U.S., fueling optimism over a potential end to the ongoing standoff. In addition, investors resorted to booking profits from the recent spike. 

Benchmark crude oil futures for August delivery decreased by $1.44 or 1.96% to settle at $72.08 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for August delivery fell by $1.72 or 2.20% to settle at $76.30 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
