India's horticulture production likely to rise by 1.90% to 3,777.76 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 crop year

The Ministry of Agriculture in its second advance estimates has said that India's horticulture production is estimated at 3,777.76 lakh tonnes during the 2025-26 crop year, an increase of 70.39 lakh tonne (1.90%) over 3707.38 lakh tonnes during 2024-25 (Final), mainly on better output of fruits and vegetables. Besides, the area under horticulture crops stood at 301.51 lakh hectare in 2025-26, a marginal increase from 301.36 lakh hectare in the preceding year.

An increase in production is estimated in fruits, vegetables, flowers and aromatic & medicinal crops. The production of fruits is expected to increase 3 per cent to 1,214.75 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 from 1,176.49 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 on the back of increase in output of banana, mango, papaya, apple and guava. The vegetable production is expected to increase 1.5 per cent to 2,210 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 from 2,177.97 lakh tonnes in 2024-25. An increase is expected in the production of potato, tomato, okra/ladyfinger, peas, cauliflower and bottlegourd.

Onion output is estimated at 307.37 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 as compared to 307.67 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, while the production of potato is seen rising at 598.89 lakh tonnes as compared to 585.71 lakh tonnes in 2024-25. The production of tomato is expected to be 214.61 lakh tonnes in 2025-26, up 4.19 per cent as compared to 205.99 lakh tonnes in 2024-25.

As per data, the production of aromatics & medicinal plants is estimated to increase to 9.76 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 from 9.01 lakh tonnes in 2024-25. The production of plantation crops is expected to be 169.34 lakh tonnes during 2025-26. Flowers output is projected to rise to 45.84 lakh tonnes in 2025-26 compared to 42.65 lakh tonnes in 2024-25. The production of spices is expected to increase to 126.55 lakh tonnes in 2025-26. An increase in production is envisaged in garlic, turmeric, curry leaf and fenugreek.
