Life insurers report 18% rise in new business premium in February 2026

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 18.11% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in new business premium (NBP) in the month of February 2026 at Rs 35417.27 crore as compared to Rs 29985.58 crore in the year-ago period. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium increased by 11.60% Y-o-Y to Rs 16150.25 crore in February 2026 from Rs 14471.62 crore. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium increased 24.19% to Rs 19267.02 crore in February 2026 from Rs 15513.95 crore in February 2025. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of February 2026, individual single premium stood at Rs 4936.90 crore as against Rs 4300.94 crore in February 2025, i.e. up by 14.79%. Individual Non-Single premium surged 21.16% to Rs 10824.30 crore in February 2026 as compared to Rs 8933.99 crore in February 2025, Group Single Premium stood at Rs 17729.04 crore in February 2026. Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 283.98 crore in February 2026 and Group Yearly Renewable Premium increased to Rs 1643.05 crore in February 2026.

Among the private insurance companies, SBI Life Insurance Company reported 28.61% Y-o-Y growth in premium to Rs 2796.66 crore in February 2026, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company’s premium rose by 15.68% Y-o-Y at Rs 2148.30 crore in February 2026. TATA AIA Life Insurance Company reported 38.05% Y-o-Y growth in premiums to Rs 1223.52 crore in February 2026. Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company reported 35.78% Y-o-Y growth in premiums to Rs 1006.92 crore in February 2026. On the other hand, HDFC Life Insurance Company’ premium fell by 2.61% Y-o-Y at Rs 3129.75 crore in February 2026 as compared to Rs 3213.76 crore in February 2025.
