Life insurers report 22% rise in new business premiums in July 2025

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 22.42% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in new business premiums (NBP) in the month of July 2025 at Rs 38958.05 crore as compared to Rs 31822.69 crore in the year-ago period. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium increased by 22.02% Y-o-Y to Rs 16340.41 crore in July 2025 from Rs 13392.07 crore. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium increased 22.72% to Rs 22617.64 crore in July 2025 from Rs 18430.63 crore in July 2024. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of July 2025, individual single premium stood at Rs 5506.81 crore as against Rs 4610.66 crore in 2024, i.e. up by 19.44%. Individual Non-Single premium surged 9.60% to Rs 10051.05 crore in July 2025 as compared to Rs 9170.53 crore in July 2024, Group Single Premium stood at Rs 21280.53 crore in July 2025. Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 366.33 crore in July 2025 and Group Yearly Renewable Premium increased to Rs 1753.32 crore in July 2025. 

Among the private insurance companies, SBI Life Insurance Company reported 26.93% Y-o-Y growth in premium to Rs 3802.57 crore in July 2025, HDFC Life Insurance Company’s premium stood at Rs 3054.15 crore in July 2025, up by 13.15% over July 2024, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance posted 8.31% Y-o-Y growth to Rs 1906.27 crore in July 2025 and Axis Max Life Insurance’s premium stood at Rs 1051.05 crore in July 2025, while Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company reported 3.70% de-growth in premiums to 1151.66 crore in July 2025.
