Non-life insurers report marginal rise in gross direct premium underwritten for July

The General Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that non-life insurers reported 0.95% rise in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 28102.14 crore for the month of July 2025 (excluding specialised companies - Agricultural Insurance Company of India and ECGC) as compared to Rs 27839.00 crore in the July 2024. 

Of the total, general insurance companies, with market share of 86.43%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 24480.14 crore in the month under review as compared to Rs 24558.04 crore in the corresponding month of previous year, registering a de-growth of 0.32%. Among all, premium of Raheja QBE General Insurance Co down by 69.15%, HDFC Ergo General Insurance Co down by 26.36%, Kshema General Insurance Co down by 24.49%, National Insurance Co down by 17.19% and Zurich Kotak Mahindra General Insurance Co down by 14.67%,while Navi General Insurance Co up by 59.69%, Shriram General Insurance Co up by 33.50%, Go Digit General Insurance Co up by 26.70%, Royal Sundaram General Insurance Co up by 21.73% and Liberty General Insurance Co up by 21.91%. 

Standalone health insurers, with market share of 11.72%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 3622.00 crore in July 2025 as compared to Rs 3280.96 crore in July 2024, i.e. up by 10.39%. Among all, Narayana Health Insurance Co up by 5680.00%, Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co up by 26.69%, Care Health Insurance Co up by 14.32% and Niva bupa health insurance company up by 10.03%. 

Specialised insurers showed growth of 49.19% in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 1627.65 crore in July 2025 as compared to Rs 1090.96 crore in the July 2024. Within the specialised insurers, premium of Agricultural Insurance Company of India up by 55.03%, while premium of ECGC up by 1.79% in the month of July this year.
