Life insurers report marginal fall in new business premiums in June 2025

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 3.10% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) fall in new business premiums (NBP) in the month of June 2025 at Rs 41117.14 crore as compared to Rs 42433.69 crore in the year-ago period. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium decreased by 2.45% Y-o-Y to Rs 13722.14 crore in June 2025 from Rs 14066.82 crore. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium decreased 3.43% to Rs 27395.00 crore in June 2025 from Rs 28366.87 crore in June 2024. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of June 2025, individual single premium stood at Rs 4661.52 crore as against Rs 3823.65 crore in June 2024, i.e. up by 21.91%. Individual Non-Single premium surged 9% to Rs 9058.63 crore in June 2025 as compared to Rs 8310.61 crore in June 2024, Group Single Premium stood at Rs 26038.11 crore in June 2025. Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 42.63 crore in June 2025 and Group Yearly Renewable Premium increased to Rs 1316.25 crore in June 2025. 

Among the private insurance companies, HDFC Life Insurance Company reported 6.34% Y-o-Y growth in premium to Rs 2523.36 crore in June 2025, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance posted 4.10% Y-o-Y growth to Rs 1572.94 crore in June 2025, AXIS Max Life Insurance reported 21.34% growth in premiums to 1084.75 crore in June 2025. On the flip side, SBI Life Insurance’s premium stood at Rs 2620.37 crore in June 2025, down by 12.36% over June 2024 and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance reported 21.34% de-growth in premiums to 851.44 crore in June 2025.
