Non-life insurers report marginal rise in gross direct premium underwritten for June

The General Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that non-life insurers reported 5.79% rise in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 23256.99 crore for the month of June 2025 (excluding specialised companies - Agricultural Insurance Company of India and ECGC) as compared to Rs 21,984.96 crore in the June 2024. 

Of the total, general insurance companies, with market share of 87.97%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 19916.08 crore in the month under review as compared to Rs 18959.29 crore in the corresponding month of previous year, registering a growth of 5.05%. Among all, premium of Navi General Insurance Co up by 36.38%, Shriram General Insurance Co up by 30.57%, National Insurance Co up by 25.94%, Zuno General Insurance Co up by 23.35%, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance up by 17.08%. However, Kshema General Insurance Co down by 539.62%, Raheja QBE General Insurance Co down by 65.05%, Future Generali India Insurance Co down by 20.10%. 

Standalone health insurers, with market share of 11.54%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 3,340.91 crore in June 2025 as compared to Rs 3,025.67 crore in June 2024, i.e. up by 10.42%. Among all, ManipalCigna Health Insurance Co up by 37.30%, Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co up by 26.47%, Niva bupa health insurance company up by 15.52%, Care Health Insurance Co up by 4.98%. 

Specialised insurers showed de-growth of 42.54% in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 165.46 crore in June 2025 as compared to Rs 287.97 crore in the June 2024. Within the specialised insurers, premium of Agricultural Insurance Company of India down by 76.44%, while premium of ECGC up by 6.36% in the month of June this year.
